UC Hastings College of the Law houses centers that conduct timely research on human rights issues, including one of the few centers in the nation dedicated to supporting women fleeing gender-based harm.
Center for Gender and Refugee Studies
The Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, housed at UC Hastings College of the Law, is dedicated to supporting women who seek asylum on the basis of fleeing gender-related harm in their home countries, such as domestic violence or female genital cutting. Read about the center’s important work for women’s human rights, including case summaries, country-specific research, and annual reports, here.
Environmental Justice
The Public Law Research Institute at UC Hastings College of the Law has conducted important research on issues of environmental justice, which examines how communities that are already socially and/or economically disadvantages bear the brunt of undesirable environmental impact. Reports of these issues focusing on both California and the U.S. can be read here.
